Hillbilly Foal Blanket

While the foal looks cute, I'm not sure it is a good idea in the rain/snow.  That sweat shirt looks soaked.

Thanks to Helen

  1. Using a hooded sweatshirt is actually a tip that can be found in Story's Guide to Raising Horses. We bred in the spring to have babies (one or two) in the spring, and while we are blessed with mild winters, they come in handy when a cold snap arises. Although, we did not cut holes in the hood, it was left bunched up to act like a 'high neck blanket.' The sweatshirts were also, like, a youth medium or large and zipped down the middle for easy on/off.

  2. This looks like way too many ways to get tangled up. Picturing a hind hoof caught up in the sagging belly...
It's not that hard to make a foal blanket out of an old blanket and baling twine (with scissors or a knife), and probably a lot safer, people!!
